Avery Sunshine
Avery Sunshine is a mercurial musician and singer who blends the soul of gospel and jazz with R&B to create a unique mix. Avery Sunshine's work has led her from Broadway to European festivals and clubs up to the Democratic National Convention. Sunshine's real name is Denise White. While she is a resident of Atlanta but she is out of Chester Pennsylvania where she began her musical vocation by singing and playing piano in church. She was a student at Spellman College and began to master the R&B style that is popular in Atlanta. In 2005, she was the drummer in Tyler Perry's stage show Meet the Browns. Jennifer Holliday, a Grammy and Tony Award winning vocalist who was part of the stage production Dreamgirls in the National Black Arts Festival of Atlanta in 2007, approached her about being the choral leader for the production. Sunshine was noticed by all of the country during four performances per day at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Sunshine followed up with being invited to sing for President Barack Obama at his inauguration.
